Structural Wood Corporation: Wood Decking

The use of wood decking is a common structural application spanning between purlins or rafters in a timber framing system. Solid 2x6 decking is available from SWC in Douglas Fir, Southern Yellow Pine and Spruce. Laminated roof deck in 3x6 and 4x6 Fir / Larch is also available from Structural Wood Corporation's inventory.

Wood decking is cut in a tongue and groove interlocking pattern along the edges of the pieces. End matching is specified to prevent the material ends from displacing out of plane in the common ‘random lay-up’ installation. The American Wood Council (AWC) has a publication addressing the various installation lay up methods and corresponding load tables considering bending and deflection.

End matching, stain and varnish finishes are available. Prefinishing improves the economy of the projects and helps speed up construction.
