Structural Wood Corporation: Solid Timbers

A unique building classification is used in the codes to describe heavy timber construction. Though glulam and solid timber materials are utilized for this type of construction, the provisions date back to the time when solid timbers were the only choice. The American Wood Council (AWC) has a manual on Heavy Timber Construction that provides valuable understanding of the use of these sustainable materials.

SWC maintains a substantial inventory of Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar timbers which can be re-sawn in custom sizes to meet the needs of most projects. The "sawn" look can be retained, or a smooth sanded texture can be provided. Applications of stain, varnish, and flame resistance finishes are available.
